Temptation
Path
I've been traveling
on the back roads
Of this dubious existence.
I eshooed the desires of the straight and narrow path.
I got caught up
In the uptake
Of the temple of desires
I was drenched in the milk
Of my temptation fantasy.
You can pray for grace.
You can embrace the dark.
Sometimes the veil will be lifted
One more time and you can see the dawn.
I was beaten till
I shimmered
Like a plate of hammered brass.
I found grace in the presence
Of a woman's shining light.
I watched the towers fall.
I inhaled that inhuman pall.
I sifted through the rubble
In the filthy rain of that horrid night.
You can search for
light
You can yearn for all you lack
You can get sidetracked from the desires
That control you and you can fight it
But they keep coming back.
And you can see the
the light
And you can fell the night
And you can see me, feel me
Trying to get it right.
I'm so tired of living
in this dank prison I created.
Being righteous feels so hollow as an unfulfilled dream.
I'm self aware as a new born and equally dependent.
I'm secure in the knowledge it doesn't matter any more.
I came up short on
grace
I fell down flat on my face
Truth be told it's the bad choices that controlled me.
And you can fight it but the cure can sometimes be worse.
And you can see the
light
And you can hear the night
And you can see me, hear me all night.
