Top 20 U.S. ISPs by Subscriber

Our revised ranking of the Top 20 U.S. Consumer ISPs by subscriber disregards method of connectivity in order to determine home user market share for the first quarter of 2001.

According to our research the top three fee-based ISPs in the U.S are AOL, MSN and EarthLink. Juno, and NetZero round out the top five ISPs, The sixth position goes to Excite@Home, the first cable access company to secure nearly 5 percent of the U.S. home access service segment (below).

Dialup stalwarts CompuServe and Prodigy are separated by a mere 100,000 users for seventh place. BlueLight's move to meter access cost it a slew of registered users, but left the free ISP with just enough active users to nudge out AOL-fed Gateway.net services.
